HILLWOOD ESTATE, MUSEUM & GARDENS, WASHINGTON DC
Spectacular Gems and Jewelry from the Merriweather Post Collection
Exhibition on view June 10, 2017 - January 1, 2018
This season, the Hillwood Estate Museum presents an exceptional exhibition paying tribute to Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973), the Post cereal empire heiress and longstanding client of the Maison Cartier. For the first time, the most remarkable jewelry from her collection is shown in her former private home in Washington, which has become a museum. Among the Cartier pieces on view, visitors can discover an Art Deco-style ring on loan from the Cartier Collection. This exhibition explores the sense of style in American high society, the history of exceptional historical stones, and the stylistic developments that influenced early 20th-century jewelry design.
